i'll assume with 1st generation, you mean 1967-1969 years
unfortunately, my book only has engine info on 396 engines, and that is only in 1969.... but i'll list what i've got
1969 396 engine installment in Camaros:
L35 325 hp 396: 6,752
L34 350 hp 396: 2,018
L78 375 hp 396: 4,889
L78/L89 aluminum head 375 hp 396: 311 (272 in 1968, none in 1967)
for a total of 13,970 396-equipped Camaros, which is only about 5.75% of all cars, so that makes 396 Camaros so expensive (about the same percentage of the fold-down rear seat)
which is out of 243,085 total Camaros produced during the 1969 model year
