Hello all,
I was wondering if someone could help me. I have entered below a cowl tag and vin# for a 67. I was hoping someone could give me the run down on what it was from the factory and/or tell me of a good site where I can figure it out myself, the few sites I have found on 1st gen codes really suck, anyways..
Vin: 12437N160712
Cowl: 12D
ST 67-12637 NOR 60864
TR 732-Z F-F
W 2LG 3S
4P 5Y
From what Ive seen on this forum Joe and Rick are really good with this info, but I thank any and all who may be able to lend some help.

camaro_man,
Thanks for the info, I think I got most of that but not quite all.
Can anyone tell from that info the size of V8 that would have been stock?
Thanks again,
Jay

What we have, starting is a 1967 Camaro sports coupe that was built in the 4th week of December, built at the Norwood Ohio plant, has Delux/Custom Bright blue interior with bucket seats, Marina blue paint for the top and bottom of car, tinted windsheild, 4 speed with console, rear mounted antenna, delux seat belts. And last but not least my friend you have there a factory SS-350. That car has some of the most desirable options offered on a 1967 Camaro. Good luck on your resto, let us know if we can be of anymore help.

Hey, camaro man, Nice job decoding the tag!!
As it goes for this car of yours Jay, its the best 67 camaro offered from the factory!!! I would go close to concors if you can, it would be a real nice classic!

12D means its was made in the forth month of December, 732 means bright blue interrior, lets see what else, Z means "Strato" buckets with out head rests. W means tinted windsheild, L means 4 speed on the floor, G means console front compartment, S means interrior trim, and camaro man to answer your question, the 4P truly means that the car was equipped with a radious rod and a NON blackened tailpan. Only high preformance cars had radious rods, some were circular and others were square. 67 camaros did not have stagger shocks or even multi leafs (TERRIBLE TRACTION) so chevy put radious rods on the faster cars that need traction. The cars that recieved radious rods were 12 bolt rear axel cars, going back to what i said about some being square and some round, at about mid december chevy switched from making circular radious rods to square. Some engine and tranny types took longer to switch and some did not at all, and some always had them!!!!!!!!!! So this car might NOT BE and SS 350!!!! ti could be a 327/M20!! we need more numbers!
ok back to the tag LOL 5Y means delux belts,

Joe the 4P in the trim tag is that of an SS-350! He's got the real McCoy. My car is a factory Rally Sport that is an identical body clone of yours with the exception being a 210 HP 327 and a powerglide 2 speed. I don't care about originality because most of my car has been replaced (before I got it), my engine that I am uring is the 350 4 bolt main block that was in it when I bought it, and other than that, I have re-replaced a lot of garbage that was on the car. Mine lived a hard lfe, almost as hard as Joe's.

Ok.. I have another question (actually a couple) is the custom/deluxe interior the same thing as the "Z23" interior, Ive seen in a number of places talk of the "S" code being a Z23 interior and wondered if that was the same as you guys are calling a deluxe or custom trim/interior, and how does that "6" code (for custom interior) fit into that mix of info? Also, does anyone know off hand if a 67 350-SS would have had the front end with the lower fog-lights and front spoiler?
Thanks guys,
Jay

1st gen Camaro's never came with fog lights. The RS had it's turn signals in the valance but never fog lights. I can't find my book that says what Z23 is, but my gut says to agree with you, this one is best left for Joe until I can corroborate that.

Z23 is the interrior decor group. Such as extra chrome and lighting, perhaps even gauges. It is completly different then the Z21 custom delux interrior. Just has all the bells and whistles! :)

i got my book:
Z23- "Special Interior Group ($10.55 - option cost in 1967)
and it breaks down the codes as earlier stated
but my book doesn't have the decoding for interior group and such
