IM PISSED . . . I BEEN DOING ALLOT OF STREET RACEING LATELY .$HITIN ON THEM MUSTANGS (MUSTAKES). BUT EVERY TIME I WOMPON IT THEN GET TO THE NEXT LIGHT AND STOP MY CAR WOULD BE IDLEING FINE TILL ABOUT A MINUTE OF SITTIN AT THE LIGHT THEN IT WILL IDLE AT 1500 TO 2000 AND THEN WHEN I START TO LEAVE THE LIGHT A CRUISE AT ANY SPEED IT FEELS LIKE ITS BOGGIN OUT A LITTLE. THEN WHEN I GET HOME AND PUT IT IN PARK IT WILL START IDLEIN CRAZY AGAIN . .AND ALL MY FRIENDS WITH MAROS THERES DOES IT SOMETIMES BUT MINES DOES IT EVERYDAY . .I THINK ITS MY TPS SENCOR BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AIN ON . .IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAL OR U GOT A THEORY ON WHAT THE PROBLEM IS HOOK A BROTHA UP . .THANKS YA . .:D

These cars are known to have problems with the fuel pressure regulator. Buy you an aftermarket one, tune it in, and you should be set.

I had different problems with the idling, first was one sparkcable lose, then one bad fuel injector, and last was a lose header bolt.

Inspect and Clean the I.A.C. , and the Throttlebody....
The I.A.C. (idle air control valve ) is what controls the idle.... eradic idle can be caused by a valve that has a lot of carbon build up on the plunger, which does not allow the plunger to seat proper... Follow the Repair manuls directions on how to check this piece.... Replace as necessary.

Hmmm...I've been having problems as well, some days my 93Z idles just fine, then sometimes on the same day, after it's warmed up, the rpm's drop to almost nothing, then gets back to 700, wavering between 5&700...Man that pisses me off. What's really irritating is that some days it runs like a champ, no problems. A friend of mine says that it may be a vacuum leak somewhere...But if that's the case, then why does it occur only sometimes??? Today drove over 300 miles to and from Tijuana MX my Z got over 25 mpg, and it ran great! Smoked a 92 pony fastback while I was at it too. Any suggestions? I got new plugs & wires...???

Alot of times, it is just a dirty or neglected Throttlebody... a TB needs cleaned everynow and again also...
Start with the simple fix first..... these usually tend to solve the problems... if not, you can rule that out... and move to the next level.

Okay...Now to reveal my ignorance...How would I clean my TB? Just remove the A/F & hose assembly? Do I have to remove the TB in order to clean it? Thanks 385LT1 & twofast...

Yes, i remove mine to clean it up....
take off the TPS and take out the IAC.....
and clean everything up real nice with some TB cleaner.....

When is the last time it had a tune up? These symptoms could be a result of everything already mentioned. If a tune up is in order that is the one of the things I would do to try to eliminate the problem along with the other suggestions made by other members. Get a Fuel Presser gauge on the car to see if you pressure is good & not erratic.. Could just be a dirty fuel filter or something fuel related. Just have to start eliminating possible causes.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS YA . . MY CAR IS DO FOR A TUNE UP IM ABOUT TO TRY THAT . . .PLUS BUY A HOLLEY FUEL REGULATER . . MY CAR IS RUNIN LIKE $HIET . .I RACED A 02 MUSTANG GT TODAY ON THE FREEWAY AND I STILL WON BUT HE HAD SOME PULL . . BUT I REGRET RACEIN BECAUSE MY CAR IS RUNNIN HELLA BAD NOW . . . ITS BOGGIN OUT HELLA ITS GETTING ON MY LAST NERVE . . CANT WAIT TO FIX IT.

385: Aside from cleaning the obvious parts like the TB components, have you used the GM top-cylinder cleaner available from the dealer that you 'trickle' into the fuel supply from what looks like an I.V. bottle?
Used it for years on my other GM cars, and it worked to clean up everything but the external stuff very nicely.
As far as injector maintenance.......there isn't any I'm aware of. Run RedLine SI-1 from time to time and there shouldn't be a problem.

Injector maintenece is as simple as having them cleaned and flow tested every so many years.

Just out of curiosity, do you have ASR? I just bought a 97 Z28 and the other night i noticed that after the ASR kicked in, the car idled at about 2000. My friend in the car said that when we stopped and started again, it sounded like the rear brakes were hanging up. Sure enough, when the ASR came on again, the car idled at normal(700). Just wondering if that might have been what you were talking about.
