View Full Version : shining up BAER brake calipors

well i scooped up a baer brake kit setup and need to know how i can put the shine to them.it looks like its chrome.i will post some pics this evening.
i cleaned them a little with some brake cleaner.
bye the way i slamed on the brakes doing 100 and it was amazing how quick i stoped(the guy i bought them from told me to do it and tell him if there was a difference).no wheel lockup at all.

It looks like they were stored at the bottom of a pool.

The disc will shine back up when you start using them becuase all that is is surface rust. On the caliper if its chrome I have found that WD 40 works pretty good at cutting through dirt like that.

i will give the wd-40 a shot anyone else have a sugestion or what not to use?

Marshall, just a quick note. Don't do too many 100 to 0 stops with those brakes because they will get hairline cracks in them quite easily. I was talking to Brent Franker about that, and judging by your pics you have the old style rotors that he did. He did a couple of high mile an hour stops and cracked his rotors real good, so just use a little caution.

i showed jason how good they were in the wet roads today.locked them up at about 60 and the tires never locked up at all.we just stoped real quick.i noticed there are different rotors i can use.might have to upgrade in the future.yall did'nt mention how i can clean these up bye chance?

Brent Franker suggests using wire wheel acid to clean the calipers up, then you can either have them polished or just clear coat them. I would either paint or powder coat the brackets. The rotors will clean them selves up as you drive.
