I feel like they should make the current SS the Z28 and then make that one the SS. It always seemed like the SS was much more special than the Z28. ITS ALL BACKWARDS NOW!! GAHHHH

Instead of having an ss1 and and ss2, they should make the ss1 a Z28.

Well the Mustang has the Shelby GT500 which is supercharged and puts out 540hp. And as far as the pricing the article said that they think they can price it far enough away from the Corvette. So if they want it to be competitively priced with the Shelby it will have to be in the $45k-50k range because the Shelby's base MSRP is about $46k.

The Z28 will be the top dog like it was back in the old days so it couldnt be the 1SS package. Also from what I have heard the Mustang will be coming out with basically the same power as the Camaro next year.

Exactly. SS was never the top dog. They switched around for what ever reason idk. Was that in 93? Trips me. But I feel the z28 should be the top dog bc the z28 was considered the "road king". Hopefully as ford does every year saying how they are goin to give the mustang more power, I hope they fail and make it underpowered as usual!

its not backwards. the 4th gens were backwards technically.

well, in 93, when the 4th gens were released for production, the Fbody was already on the chopping block due to continuous poor sales. when they made the 4th gens, GM had no plans to make 3 models. they made the base model v6 and a top model Z28. then in '96, SLP started modding Z28's from GM and rebadging them as Z28/SS's. GM jumped on the bandwagon and introduced a "new" model as the SS.

as for the motortrend article.... it is a little old. and its all based on speculation. the picture itself is a rendering. not a real picture.

however, they are mostly right as far as the engine speculation. right now, all points are leading to an LSA powered Z28 with a track pack.

Just watched a show on TV about the 2010 Camaro.
It showed a supercharged model SS ZL575 which will have a base price of 57,995.
The motor which seems like a detuned verision of the 6.2L supercharged vette and is rated at 575 hp.
They ran it in the 1/4 and it turned 11.8 @ 121 mph. It had street tires on it and they left pretty soft. They also shifted like my grandmother.
In the hands of some of us racers and with some drag radials high 10s are very possible.

The only thing is the SS's have always had more HP than the Z's even if the first gen Z's were more rare and desired With the new ones the Z's will be the top dog with more HP than the SS's which is backwards.

I saw that same show. the motor isnt an LS9 from the ZR1. its an LS3 with a TVS2300 blower, which is the same blower from the LS9.

and thats a lot of money to spend for those results... and a couple badges

Greg he did not say it was the ls9 in the camaro, he used it as a refrence to how much power it had compaired to the vette. he even note its like a de-tuned ls9.

I think the top dog should be the z28, when i anywhere in my z28 everyone always ask's me is thata z28? im never asked is that an ss, so even the common person knows what the z28 is. I caint wait to get my new z28 and park it next to my current z at car shows and in the drive way.

the way I read it was that he meant it was a detuned version of the LS9. :scratchch

no matter. the Z28 is the top dog.

same reason Z28.com (http://www.z28.com) is top dog over SS .com (http://www.ss.com)

While I don't like quoting Wikipedia, the LSA is what is supposed to be going into the Z28. Wiki quotes it as this:

The supercharged 6.2L LSA is similar to the LS9 and debuted in the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. The LSA has been SAE certified at 556 bhp (415 kW)@6100rpm and 551 lb·ft (747 N·m)@3800rpm. GM labels it "the most powerful ever offered in Cadillac’s nearly 106-year history". The LSA features a smaller 1.9L capacity supercharger rather than the 2.3L variant of the LS9. Other differences include a slightly lower 9.0:1 compression ratio, single unit heat exchanger and cast pistons.

This is bascially what I've read previously from other specs as well. The LSA is currently in the CTS-V as well as having some marine applications.

yeah, wiki can be a little skewed from time to time. the LSA and the LS9 share a lot of common architecture, but just like an LS9 isnt just an LS3 with a supercharger, the LSA isnt an LS9 with a smaller s/c.

and while we haven't gotten official word on what will go into the Z, sources strongly point to the LSA. which is one hell of a motor.

my buddy Robin Lawrence has already swapped one into his 5th gen backed with a 4l80e.

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp32/RobinLawrence/IMG_3727.jpg

and I read recently that GM did a test on the LSA, running it WOT for like 2 weeks or something IIRC. ran like a charm

In simple terms, alot of HP in the Z28.......and alot of more potential HP.

Modding these engine is expensive. I see the 4th gens being popular for awhile, esp the LS1 Camaros.
