Hey all... if any of you have been in the 3rd gen forum at all, you've probably seen one or two posts of mine talkin about the 383 I'm getting built.

Just to brush up on this stuff... I need your advice.

Upon talking to my co-engine builder, who is the head instructor at the local college, also builds race engines on the side for dragsters and mudslingers.... Anyway... he said instead of running a 2 bolt, or regular 4 bolt block, I should spend the money on a 2 bolt block to get splayed caps installed. He said while the 4 bolt is tough as nails, the splayed caps would be stronger yet, and be better suited to handle the extra shot of horsepower.

We are building the engine with eagle 4340 h beam rods, and a 4340 crank, sportsman forged pistons, edelbrock super victor intake, holley 830 cfm carb, GM camel hump heads (2.08/1.625 with manley titanium valves, 1.55" springs, and 7/16" studs, ported and polished) roller everything....

I've always wanted to run nitrous, and told him that I would only be adding nitrous if I didn't make a 11.00 1/4, or a mustang beat me in a head to head....

sooo... questions..

A) Splayed caps: are they all they are cracked up to be?
B) How big of nitrous system should I get, I'm guessing a 250shot?
C) With the engine above, is it a good combo to run nitrous?

Thanks for your help!!! I'm open for all advice

Sounds like your building up a nice motor. Is that a solid roller or hydraulic roller? What are your specs on your cam? As far as the splayed caps yes they are a great reassurance item and they are supposed to be a little stronger than the 4 bolt because the splayed bolts go more into the meat of the block. I would say you are good to go up to about a 300 shot as long as the crank is forged like all the other parts. Let me know what the cam specs are and I will be able to tell you a little more on if its a good combo for nitrous.

Yeah I would think that cam would be a nice choice for nitrous.
