Recently my brother-in-law purchased a disc brake 3.42 posi rear end, from a gentlemen that used to run to salvage yards and collect third gen parts. He recently decided to start selling all of his 3rd gen stuff, in hopes of purchasing his next project car. An '86 Vette, that I believe he is stuffing with the ZZ4 tpi topped engine that was in an '86 IROC I purchased from him. Anyhow. My other brother-in-law thinks that the rear-end is an australian built 9-bolt. It distintcly has nine bolts on the rear cover and is a complete used rear. The rear is going to be installed in an '86 305 TPI Z-28 (Stock Engine, future modifications, mainly bolt on till the engine goes). Now down to the questions.
1) Is this infact an australian built 9-bolt rear?
2) How much torque can this stock rear end handle?
3) Will a proportioning valve need to be used (I have differing opinions on this from a couple different sources)?
4) How is parts availability on this rear end (brake pads, calipers, rotors, etc.)?
5) Will there be a drive shaft issues (to short, to long)?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
