I pulled this engine out of a 1970 chevy custom 20 and all i know about it is that it has 2 or 4 bolt mains, and that it made between 185-350 hp but i want to know the exact hp that the engine has. I know that the casting number is 3970010.

This is all I could find. http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm Usually the truck engines were 4 bolt.

You'll Be Lucky If It Made 200 H.p.. Being A Truck Motor, It Was Designed With A Small Profile Camshaft To Make '' Torque''. Same Goes With The Intake And The Heads. Coming Out Of A 3/4 Ton Truck. You Can Bet Your Next Paycheck It's A 4 Bolt Main With A Steel Crank.

Being That It Is A 70 Motor. I Would Keep It Because Of The Higher Nickel Content In The Block. This Motor Probably Only Made Around 200-225 H.p.. Send Me The Casting # On The Right Side Rear Of The Block. I Could Look It Up And Give You Alittle Better H.p. Range. MONEY WISE, IT IS PROBABLY WORTH AROUND 200.00.

Yep... Those good 70' blocks are the good ones & are getting harder to find... at least around here. I would hold on to it as long as there are no cracks or anything.
