My vents dont open

I have an 81 z-28 and on the induction air the vents dont open if i want them open i have to do it by hand but they dont stay open what is my problem

i have this cowl scoop on my 78,even though it was only an option for 80/81.the cowl is opened with a electric solinoid and a switch on the carb linkage,i believe.either this switch is bad ,or the solanoid.try jumping the switch and hit the solanoid with 12v from the battery.try useing some old speaker wire for this.if it opens this way,you know the problem is going to be in the switch or wireing.

The switch for the vents is under the gas pedal, and the wire goes through the firewall to the actuator under the hood scoop.

The switch for the air induction was sometimes placed on the carb for the 1981 .. I know i have an 81 z28, so if you've had and carb modifactions or a new motor or rebuilt the chances are the equipment was probaly set aside.. but if you want to check to see if the flaps open do as said before try hookin the sloiend to the battery and the flaps should open.. the wire will spark a little but don't worry.. I haven't found any aftermarket parts for the induction for the 81's but.. maybe you could fiqure out some kind of switch...
