I see many people either ported their throttle body or did a throttle body bypass. Is doing one better than the other and can you do both to your throttle body. I've been trying to look them up on Google and universityinstall and I still don't get it. Is the ported throttle body something you can do yourself, or do you buy the throttle body ported. Also, is doing these things better than buying a new bigger TB? What are your suggestions? I need help, as you can see, I'm clueless in this area.

The throttle body bypass is a free mod, porting your TB is not. They are both good but dont expect with your mods to see alot of gains out of either. The TB will give you more throttle response and better flow.

A friend of mine installed a LS6 intake on his car and he gained 16hp out of it...and that was an automatic car....

There's three mods you want to do with a factory TB. The bypass, porting, and the bump stop. All of them can be done in a day.
For aftermarket, I personally went with the NX TB because it is matched to the LS6 intake. Both of them are 85mm.

There havent been alot of gains seen from the bigger throttle bodies on a LS6 intake, the plenume on a ls6 is still 78 mm and cant be ported, You can bolt on a bigger TB but it will be restricted. If your going big and want to go in that direction do it right. NX is suppose to be coming out with a 85 MM intake thats already plumed for direct port, i really wanted the NX setup but got tired of waiting. But i agree just do all 3 the bypass, bump stop and port on stock TB.

Same here. I waited and waited for their intake and finally went with the LS6.

I hope that 16hp is RWHP?

FYI for home throttle body porting
this is a write up from bo white
Take the TB and clean it real good with a rag and brake clean inside to get the carbon off. Take a Sharpie and trace around the TB blade were it is at rest and that will give you a guide line to port up to(but not past). Take a T-15 torque bit and take the blade screws out and open the blade up by swinging the throttle to the open position and slide the blade through the back. Take a T-20 and take the screws out of the TPS and IAC and remove them and be sure to keep up with the rubber o-ring on the IAC so to be able to put it back when you reassemble. Take a dead blow or brass hammer and knock the throttle shaft out, there is a metal o-ring pressed on the shaft to keep it in that will pop off when ya do this that I just throw away. The throttle return spring will unwind on ya when the shaft moves out so be prepared. Now the TB housing is bare and now you can port it by removing the lip that is right infront of the blade by using the Sharpie marker mark that you traced earlier as a guide. Do not port past that point or you will "over port" it and have idling issues. Blend the rest of the housing

Unless your confident and have skills i wouldnt even mess with it. I would spend the 135.00 and get one of Thunders Ported TB's. I have seen some people make some crappy dremel home port jobs.

I do them, it takes quite a bit of time to make it just right. Most arent even comfident enough to break down the t/B to do the work much less take the time and make it perfect. With a mostly stock setup a ported stocker it the way to go. If you rub your finger on the inside of the T/B you will fell a decent lip in from of the Blade. That is what you are trying to remove to make a true 70 mm t/b. It takes me about 2 hours to get it just perfect, but I can also powdercoat them :D. I will be powdercoating my ported T/b over this winter.

Don't waste your time on the TB unless you got internals to go with it...the LS6 is the ticket. Like Fanta sez...U can run in the 10's on the stock 48mm TB.

An LD9 (2.4 cavalier motor) T/b lol. Stock is supposed to be 70mm, but they fall a bit shy due the the lip that has to be ported out ;)
