My buddy has an 02 SS with every SLP option, nothing else. His car is rated at 345HP (at the crank I think).
He ran into a guy with an 03 Cobra SVT and they chatted. The Cobra owner says he was a "DIE HARD GM MAN" who had a 98 LS1, however he was blown away by this new SVT which is rated at 390HP stock. It has a supercharger in it and the webpage claims it is pushing 380+ft.lbs. of torque and does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.
I'm about to add some more mods to my car, including LT coated headers, an LS6 intake, Y-pipe and MAF, but until then, would it be wise for me to leave him alone???
I've outran my buddy's 02 SS but his is an automatic and mine is an M6.
Anyone else know about these 03Cobra SVT's or has anyone run one?

Yes I have one, but I have much more ponny's than a Cobra. Cobras have that 390hp 390trq, but very little RWHP. An SLP 6 spd should keep up with the cobra. I pulled on an 02 about 1 car in the quarter. He had just a few minor (cheap) mods done. Also, remember that 4.5 seconds is just to 60, they're going to launch at the line, but you should catch right back up with him. Search for the quarter mile, you'll be disappointed. Good luck, and go kick his a#@!

If I was you I would not race him unless you want to lose. I would race him, I have well over 400 RWHP!

You mean lose?

I was asking if anyone had run against an 03 Cobra SVT or knew much about them. Not if you could outrun him and what your HP was.
Thanks though. I know your car is much faster than an 03 Cobra SVT and a Z06 for that matter.

I've ran a couple of them they run pretty good for stock. All I have is lid, K&N, flowcrapper I mean flowmaster, and 410s. I've beat a couple, I've been beat by one, but he wasn't stock!

basically they lose a lot of HP thru the drive train and their 0-60 is always traction limited, most of the time they spin the tires.

They run 12.7s stock with a good driver.

w/ a damn good driver.... most average owners will run n e where in between 12.8-13.3 i've seen higher and lower but thats probably a decent average # I saw a dyno sheet on a 03 cobra n it only dyno'd around 343 rwhp

Just be careful cause it is very easy to put a couple of mods on the Cobra and it will run rather well like the Lightning pulley (which will give it more boost) and a couple others that I really cant think of right now.

ya w/ some mods like a pulley or other things like that it'l reall crank power up for the 03 cobra... but a stock one will give a a LS1 w/ some bolt-ons a d@mn good race

Yes a heads and cam LS1 should beat the 03 Cobra with pullys.

a heavily modded lt1 w/ suspension, tranny gears, and mild rebuilt engine ate a stock cobra. i was the one driving, and i'm a bad driver. he beat me off the line, but i came right back. from what i noticed, he didn't hook up that well. the tires chirped in 3rd, so he wasn't connecting.

yeah i have a 98 z28 ls1 auto with ram air, whisper lid, and K+N filter ( 340 +or- some hp) and i raced a svt cobra that was man. trans. First race was from a rolling start at about 50. He ha the jump from it being a stick and he was gone and when i floore it i just couldnt keep up. Then from a light we raced again and he had the jump again but i was startin to catch up after a couple seconds but then there were ppl in front of me so i had to slow down. BUT IF THE REASON I WAS GETTIN BLOWN AWAY IS BECAUSE I HAVE AN AUTO TRANS. U HAVE A M6 AND HE WONT HAVE THE JUMP ON U LIKE H HAD ON ME SO RACE HIM TO SEE HOW U DO FOR THE FUN OF IT TO SEE HOW U COMPARE TO HIM.

Heh, you guys are gonna be irked at me, but after looking around for a few months, and not finding any suitable late-model Z's that I liked, I finally traded my rapidly dying '95 Z in on..... a 2003 Cobra. :shhh:
It's not a bad car, really, although the seating position is horrid. I've been goofing with it since day one, that and the shifter (already upgraded the shifter in the first week). Since I'm a corner carver and not a drag racer, the quarter-mile time isn't as important to me as it probably is to the rest of the people here, but it does seem to have a bit of a kick in the arse. And I haven't even really gotten into boost yet, or over 3000 RPM.
I'm thinking I'll wait until next spring before I resume my search for a Z. I'm wanting an SS model with a 6-speed and no T-Tops (I got a new job recently, so I can afford to have both :D). So far, everything I've found locally has either been wrecked, ragged on, or has 60,000+ miles. Maybe I'll have better luck in a few months.
Ok, you can all make fun of me now. :poke2:

Well, one day I watched a Mustang consistently beat a LT4 SS in a SCCA pro solo race. I can say that they are good for that. Maybe you didn't look far enough for a good Camaro but to each his own.

Well, I'm not done looking. I just needed reliable transportation for my new job, and GM didn't really offer anything I liked. Hopefully next spring I'll be able to renew my LS-1 search. I'd rather leave the stang alone and have the Z as the project car.

I have seen several dyno sheets including a friend of mine here in town. They all put out around 375 HP at the wheels. The general concensus is that they are putting out around 425 HP at the flywheel.

Hey, I did a few dyno pulls with my 03 Cobra and ended up with 355HP at the rear wheels. Bone stock. Not as good as some, but not too bad. Probably going to leave it stock and start looking for an LS-1 to mod in the spring.

Not bad.

Actually, you might not be far off from the ones putting out 375 RWHP. Was yours dynoed on a Dynojet or Mustang dyno?(for those of you not familiar, a Mustang dyno is a brand name) If you did it on a Mustang dyno it makes sense that RWHP is lower because they load the car differently and always read less power. Also, since conditions aren't as controlled as a sealed dyno cell there are other factors that could come into play.
