Latest HP rumors....

Obviously changes can and will occur in a car until production gets closer, but here's the latest HP numbers rumored as being tested, per an individual who has always seemed to have a little more accurate info than the average guy.

Camaro: 425 HP NA, and 550 HP blown.

That should be enough to put a smile on a few of our faces. Of course...it would still need mods.

Yup.

Also, the guy said both the NA and FI cars are slotted to be produced at this point, not one or the other. Sounds like a Z28 and SS model. He mentioned what motor the NA would have, but stated there were reasons why he couldn't say what motor the blown one had in it. Not sure why he couldn't say, but it's apparently not the same as the base model.

It looks like for the first time, the top Camaro will have a tad bit more HP than the base Vette. I'd imagine that's allowed because the weight difference will allow the Vette to still be faster.

I just wish the Camaro wouldn't go the route the Cobra's did: HEAVY.

I have a feeling it's going to be a big car. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the 3700lbs+ range. I hope not, and I don't have any info to back that up, but I just have a feeling....

Dang you Jason, Dang you to heck!!! Why did you have to post this!!!!!!!!!

With numbers like those, I feel myself starting to overlook the issues I have with the concept and actually start to consider it. I know for a fact that I do not wish to part with my LE/SS because that car was is and always be my ultimate car. Now, once I graduate, I think my gift to myself could possibly come in the form of a new Camaro. Not sure what Mama bear is going to have to say about that....Oh well, I may be divorced, but I will still have 3 Camaro's LOL!!!

Weight is the enemy. I'm hoping for less than 3400 lbs.

But at a cost! I read a magazine article (now I gotta remember which one!) that talked about the various models. The standard Camaro will have a V6 rated in the upper 200 HP range; the RS will have a 327ci V8 rated around 330 or so; the Z28 will have the LS2 at 400HP, and finally the SS will have a smaller V8 blown to produce around 450HP. I thought I read the SS will cost well into the $50K range and the Z28 will be mid $40's. GM is trying hard to produce the base Camaro at a low $20K cost--to compete with the base Mustang--but the platform being used is making this difficult.

Of course we will all see what actually happens.

I know what you mean. I never really felt the 03 Cobra was particularly good looking, but the performance sold me on it. I must admit, the looks grew on me pretty quickly though. I'd imagine the Camaro would do the same for you.

Yeah, I think the Camaro is going to run into the same problems as the Mustang has. They both KNOW how to make a great car, but it's a balancing act between cost and performance.

High horsepower and light weight, does not a cheap car make.
