4th gen t/a free headlight fix

I had a problem with my headlight motor the other night and looked on ls1tech for any info and found this. I did it and it works great now. It only took me 1 hour to do and changed all four lights at the same time. It was real easy to do.

I hope this helps someone and in some way i hope it never happens to anyone. Here is the link to what i found.

So I just did this fix and it takes less than 5 minutes and works! I didn't have to remove the trim pieces, just manually raised the headlight, took the nut off, removed the post, used the manual raise knob to turn it 180 degrees reattached post and nut and lowered to about level then turned it on with powere and it reset and no noise! Woohooo!Oh and the nut is a 10 mm nut and you can use a small extension to clear the bucket housing

thats the downside of the "free fix" is that you still have a plastic gear in there that can still wear down.

the way I look at it is if you are going thru all the trouble to tear into them, replace them with metal gears and be done with it.

Mine was a pain to get out. Never worked on an LT1 firebird.

^ I don't get it, you didn't have to take anything out lol.....unless you replaced the whole thing.

Also talked to the PO today and I guess the reason mine is making noise already is because they had previously done this fix, so I guess the other half is worn out now

I think that the motor is in a different location on the LT1 cars vs. the LS1 cars. Mine was below the headlight bucket and there was no way to get it out of there without removing a bunch of stuff. I had to remove the bucket, some brackets and then the entire motor. Crack open the motor to get the gear out. Then JB Weld the motor halves back together. Then put everything together. Took about an hour plus the time for the JB weld to sit.
