3800 series II

i have a 96 camaro rs with the 3800 series 2. i've been lookin for a programmer or something like that and i found a DRT from jet and a bunch of other things for the 3.8l but they are all for 98 and newer. since i have the exact same engine and everything wouldn't it work the same for my year? or is there something different that i'm missing

Talk to zzp ...or intense racing those guys work on only on 3.8 all types of models.....don't forget to tell us what they say....and there is something different with the pcm....there are some year that the car is not easily tunable with a hand held...but I think you can still get a mail order tune....and you can't go wrong with these guys

96 computers couldnt be tuned. I think you have to get ahold of a 97 computer and then tune that one.

yea i talked to the guy at zzperformance.com and they said that all internal components would work just fine. but anything with the throttle body and induction was different. they said they might be able to tune my pcm if is shipped it in but they didn't say anything about performance chips or anything so i'm assuming that they wont work.

so on the 96 to 97 engine computer all i have to do is get the pcm from a 97 3800 and it will pretty much be a direct swap and plug or is there anything different in the harness i would have to change also?

I had the same issue with my 96 firebird. I finally had to send the pcm to get tuned. It's the only way.

About the chip....u don't use chips...u get the pcm flashed....don't know if using a 97 pcm will work or not but u will probably still do the same thing.....since from what I've read mail order tune is much better then a hand held programer
