No starting HELP

OK, I put the engine and trans in this 1997 Z28 I bought as a roller. Everything is hooked up but no starty. It turns over and will catch a little (with starting fluid) so there is spark. The fuel pump is not running. I have a vats key that fits the ignition. When I turn the key on the security light does go out. WTF

Check your pressure. I know that you said it's not running, but I always have a gauge hooked up when trying to figure this stuff out. You need to figure out if it's VATS, the relay, or the pump that is not working.

Someone had installed a code alarm system with a buch of wires. I just bypassed the vats with a resistor. The security light comes on check and goes out, seemingly normal. I think I am now at the fuel pump relay or fuel pump itself. Is there a good aftermarket pump that is equal to the GM one? If its the fuel pump I will be doing the trap door method.

The relay is easy to check. Just find the small wire that is poking out of the harness by the computer, and run a +12v wire to it, and if the pump comes on, then it's the relay, but if the pump doesn't come on, then it's the pump.

And I can't remember what the name of the pump is, but there is a 255lph pump that a lot of people have been putting in there cars.

Did the relay check and no pump, did the trap door access and pump is toast. I ordered a 255lph walbro, should be here tomorrow. By the way, accessing the fp through the top is definitely the way to go. Very easy and doesn't compromise the structure.

Ok, I have the fuel pump installed and there is 45 psi to the gauge. The car still wont start. The security light goes out upon key turn on. Could the VATS have disabled the injectors where the ecm will need repogrammed?

You did check for spark and all that jazz right? If so, then there (I think) are two fuses for the injectors. Or, you could pull your rail up, and/or get a noid light and check them.

I have spark, changed the opti, still wont start. Can the injectors not be injecting? Ecm or what?

How long did the car sit before you got it? I tried starting an engine that had sat for over a year and the injectors were all plugged as was the fuel rail. That year old gas in the rail had tuned into what looked like fine black sand. Changed the full rail and injector to ones I knew worked car fired right up.

sounds like a vats problem to me. you might not have the rite code for the vats. is the key there rite one for the car? you need to do a noid test on the injectors. fuel air fire and compression. check for them all. you`ll find it.

What's the procedure for the noid test? I thought vats, but I have the correct key and the security light comes on and then goes out with the key on.

Thanks for the input. I located a noid light set at Oreilly Auto parts. I will check the injectors and see if there is juice to them.

Check your fuses under the hood. There is I think two fuses for the injectors. If they are blown, then you need to track down why they are blown. And that could take a while.
