Question Problems reading PCM using LT1_edit

Hi folks, I just got an ALDL OBD1 to USB Cable today and went out to try downloading the current PCM settings. I installed the USB driver for the cable, then connected the data lead between the OBD1 port and my laptop. Tried running PCMREAD which is part of LT1_edit and after reaching 3% the program hung??? In the end I had to cancel the program and now when I try again the progress bar stays at 0% and hangs!

Anyone have any experience with LT1_edit or similar PCM reading software who could maybe help me get this working?

The device driver installed itself on Com4 and so I did change this setting in the PCMREAD program to match (Port=Com4). In Windows Vista device manager, USB Serial Port is set to COM4, 9600 Bits per second. Does this need to be changed perhaps?

Help!

You can try deleting the driver and reinstalling it on a different port and putting the cable on a different port. I remember having to do that when I had my cable.

Hello Tony, Yep that was good thinking mate. I removed the driver, rebooted Windows then reinstalled the driver. It chose COM4 again so I thought I'd try it once more on that port and Hey Presto! it works!!

I haven't purchased LT1_edit yet but using PCMRead I have now downloaded the current PCM tune. In order to be able to reprogram using LT1_edit I will obviously have to register and pay for it but is there any way to read the current tune file I downloaded?

I also ran Freescan with the engine running and it created a raw text log and a CSV file which loads into Microsoft Excel. Very interesting and cool to be able to see that data both LIVE and logged.

Ideally the next step for me would be to find a way to read the current tune I've just downloaded with LT1-Edit's PCMREAD program. Then after that I'll decide on whether to buy LT1-edit or TunerCat.

Thanks again Tony, you saved me some head banging

A lot of times, something as simple as that will fix the problem. As for reading the file that you downloaded about your computer, if you have the software, you should be able to read it. Where did you download it from? I would like to take a look at it. I'm thinking about getting my cable back so that I can log my car...
