Hypertech Power Programmer

I am looking for information on the Hypertech power programmer. What can it accomplish with a stock 1997 LT1. Can it give me more power, more fuel economy. My car has SLP Headers and exhaust and a K$N air filter(ooo i know), anyway is the cpu needed to help boost power? Oh and how do I post a picture on this?

Welcome aboard,

The hypertech does alot of things.
Re-Programs Non-Removable GM Tuning Chips
Adjusts Fuel Curve for Optimized Performance
Provides An Elevated RPM Limiter
Lower Fan Temperature Operation
Optimizes Shift Points
Corrects Speedometer Readings to compensate for Gear Ratio changes
No Parts to Remove, No Tools Required
Full Error Recovery and Self-diagnostics built-in
Works great with Hypertech's 160 or 180 degree PowerStats! (sold separately)

I have heard the it depends on what you want to do. If you just want to do a few bolt-ons and have a daily driver than it helps. but if you start really modding you car, then it is much better to have a local shop do a custom dyno tune. they can custom program you car for the mods you have done. If this is the case don't spend the money on a hypertech just let someone tune it for you. I on the other hand just want a few bolt-ons, so the hypertech will work for me. It is really all in what you want

I know the power tuning on the Hypertech's does nothing for the 6-speeds. They are worth getting overall if you have an auto. I would check and see if the Predator is available for the lt-1's. I know they are available for the ls-1's. I know a guy that has used both name brands on his ls-1, and he said the Predator was definitely better than the Hypertech.

hypertech PP3

Hi, dude, I just put the PP3 on my 97, which is a relatively stock car(except, K&N airbox, SLP airfoil, Granetelli MAF) and it woke it up even at part throttle. I didn't know the car already had a 180 stat from the factory, or I might not have added the 160(fans still kick on at 185, off at 175). Very nice piece. 10-15 minutes to gain 18HP/17FtPnds according to a dyno sheet from Hypertech that they gave me when I requested to see what it would do on a stock 97). Red Rocket is correct on the LS1's getting more power out of them(they get like 26HP) and having a six speed, sure it only knocks my temp down significantly, bumped rev limiter to 6400 vice 5800 and advances timing a bit but I like tried and true products that have been out for a while. I can't say anything on the other systems-only what I have. Good luck in choosing!

PPP #

Yes, it took 10-15 minutes to do it's thing and it shuts off when it's done and lets you know how many percent it is done with, as it works. Might take slightly longer if you want to choose different gear choices, optional rev limits, or fan on-off choices. I let it do the "typical" program.

Thumbs up shift points

Hi Frankjr, I'm not sure on the autoboxes, The options are to leave it alone and program other stuff, step up to 6200, or it automatically chooses 6400 for you(but I think that is a bit high, I'll probably go back into mine and edit it down to 6000. You can adjust it in 100rpm increments. Cool huh? As far as wide open throttle, shift points and shift firmness also adjustable- I think that the best way would be to either start with what it gives you and work back down to what you like, or pick a milder setup and work your way up. It's all personal choice. On a stock cam, it's probably not going to make it any faster by raising shift points, firmness-well, that's less slipage(tranny might last longer? if the higher line pressures don't hurt the tranny(if it has a ton of miles).Check out the hypertech website, you can actually view the install instructions. Go to www.hypertech-inc.com.

Thanks for the reply, I have a shiftkit so I haven't messed with the firmness. I have a program cartridge for my supercharger, so it asks what to set the limiter at, since I am running a stock cam, curious where everyone is at. 6000 is cool?
Where are you shifting @???

programming

Hi FrankJr, I'm shifting at about 5800 now but it's not hitting the limiter now. I'm getting ready to put 1.6 crane rockers and THEN, I'll probably shift at 6 since the powerband will be higher. Now, is your turn-you have a supercharger? What kind? how much boost? How hard was the install/tuning? I run a weiand 177 pro-street roots supercharger on a 400smblck in a longbed c-10. Check it out- http://www.suprchrged400c10.ls1fun.com. You have to scroll all around the page-pictures are big.
