driver side window
I HAVE A 99 CAMERO AND A 96 FIREBIRD. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW ON BOTH CARS WILL NOT ROLL UP SOMETIMES. I'VE CHANGE THE SWITCH ON ONE OF THEM AND IT STILL ACTS UP AT TIMES. ANY SUGGESTIONS. THE MOTOR STOPS AND WILL NOT ROLL UP FOR A WHILE OR IT ROLLS UP ALITTLE BIT THEN STOPS AGAIN.

If you need to replace a motor, here is some good directions.

ive had the same problem on my 95 camaro. i tested all the volts going to and from the moter and couldnt find anything wrong so all i could think is it was the power window control box located under the pasenger side glove box, you know the wall trim there on the right its under there. try changing that out. but it costs alot you can always dummy the power to the door locks but you kinda have to know alot about electrics and all. so its up to you. best bet. take it into a dealer and let them deal with it. just one car that is and find out what they did then u do it

I am betting that its the window motor. Mine did the same thing it would work and then wouldnt. Best part for me I found out when it started pouring down raining and the window wouldnt go all the way up
I bought a new motor and installed it and have not had the problem since. |

the same thing happened to me on my 99 Z. i'd be paying the toll on the expressway while its raining & all of a sudden the window wont go up for like 3 min. it happens every once in a while, & the guy at the local chevy dealer said its probably a short in the motor, but i havent gotten it replaced yet.

Those motors have built in circuit breakers that work by thermal trip. The hotter it is outside, the longer the reset time would be. Also, the hotter it gets before it trips, the longer the reset time.

It's the motor fer sure. I've replaced or had the dealership replace, like three times on each side. The rebuilt motors don't last.....six months on one and about a year on another. Replace with brand new ones if possible. These are crap motors to begin with. Very slow wind up and not a tight fit at the top. Had to adjust to keep from getting sprayed at the car wash.
My wife's Monte Carlo SS windows roll up faster and I was wondering if the motors were compatible? Hummmm....??? |

given the factory motors suck, what aftermarket motor would you use? mine are on their last leg i think. what do you think of the ones on ebay? usualy see them going for 40-50, some as low as 30.
also, didnt jason talk about opening up the motor and greasing something? dont recall off hand. thanks |

i have had them both in for about a year, no problems. Go to www.installuniversity.com and look at the write up. The hard part is drilling the holes to get to the rivets. Kinda feels weird drilling holes where GM forgot. Once i took my time on one side and get confident. The other side took 40 minutes max..
