99 V6 Multi-cylinder Misfire

I have got a friend that just bought a 99 V6 3.8 Camaro. It is saying multi cylinder misfire and we put new plugs and wires on it and it still had the same problem. so I was looking and the people that had it before put 2 of the wires on the wrong spot. Can this mess up the coils? I changed the wires back and it is still Misfireing it has a rough idle and the ses light start's flashing after it has been running for a couple of min. Could this be the coils or something else? Thanks for your help.

Crossing the wires won't harm the coils but the coils could be bad anyway.

thanks for the help man. It was the coil that the wires were crossed on that was bad. I dont know if the crossed wires had anything to do with it but that is what it was. again thanks for the help.

No problem. That's what this site is for.

I have a 2000 Camaro with a 3.8 V6 and am having the same problem. I've replaced the plugs, wires, and coils. But the problem still exists. The sequence is right, but one or more of the cylinders is continuing to misfire. Any ideas other than having to take it somewhere and paying a ton?

Wiring or pcm control issue.

Don't forget the ICM...just below the 3 coils...this is most likely the problem area before the PCM. Last ICM I lost actually blew a hole in one of the coils. Don't know if there is a way to test the ICM and they run about $275 at NAPA Auto...so just replacing it is an expensive experiment. Good grounding could also be the culprit. Is your misfire consistant or random and does it occur at low and high rpms?

^^ he is right, check the Ignition Control Module under the Coils. Autozone might be able to check it. they can test some but some models they dont have clips to fit the plugs. if not that check your wiring harness that runs along the backpart up by the firewall.

Mine fell onto my heatsheild/headers on my old camaro causing a missfire.

might have to check that if its fell you can have a good shop repair all that wrap it and have it all fixed.

It is your fuel injectors. Plain and simple. Very common on camaro's.
