low voltage reading

was wantin to know cuz i just put in a new alternator and a knew gauge cluster, i just got the car running and when i did the alternator was out when i used it but also i think the tach is off too. cuz when i idle it say like 1500 but sounds like 900 but when i take off itll soot up to like 3500 with just normal drivin.

finally got it done i just need to work the bugs out. kinda hard now that i moved to corpus for school

honda civic- nothing to brag about but the guy kept messin with me, first person to actually mess with me since i got the maro runnin.

so what is the voltage off the alternator. Kinda a confuseing question you have there. What are you trying to find out ?

really it was like 2 questions but i dont know what the reading from the alternator is but i know the gauge in the car is reading like 9 or 10 volts

You need to check the guage accuracy by checking the voltage from the alternator with a meter and checking the votage at the tap to the guage. You might have a bad connection the the guage cluster.

i found it out, i was checking everything and my alternator wasnt putting out so i checked the power for the battery side of it and had nothin so i just ran a wire from the battery to the alternator

oh man, i have the same problem right now , my alternator says 60 amp, i think i need a 90 or something...I want to try what you did. Everytime i press the brake,or turn on the fan and lights, it goes way low 2 quarter of the battery meter and my lights will dim if i turn on the fan or break. Battery is new and my alternator is rebuilt. let me know how you did it if you have the same problem.

i just ran a 10 ga. wire from the pos on the battery to the battery terminal on the alternator. (its that stud on the back with a nut) but before you do it check to see what kindof voltage your getting there to begin with cuz the reason i did this was because i had no voltage back there and the alternator needs that power to produce the electro feild to make power

turns out i do have a wire from the battery 2 thge back of the alternator...man..., Just likes being low i guess how do u check if it gets the right amount volts?
