lol it is "ok" to weld your spider gears together, ive done it before and i know others who have too, when your gears finally crap out on you than you change it. but a rearend specialist should be able to do it for you for pennies.

yea i've been lookin to convert my car to a posi also. a friend of mine was tellin me of some sort of a clip you buy for like 50 dollars and it clips onto the spider gears and acts like a regular posi would. has any one seen or heard of this?

If you want a posi, just go to the junk yard and get one out of the model camaro you need. I think the LT1 posi is stronger than the LS1, but that is my opinion. I have seen a lot more LS1 blowup than I have LT1's. If you are looking to lock the axles, do yourself a favor and just get either a mini spool or a full spool. I have run welded spiders on the dirt but I wouldn't want it on the street. You have a lot more traction and the welds are the weak point as the metal in the gears is stronger than the weld. Either get an Eaton posi or a spool, that is what I would do.
