what tranny for a pontiac 455

Does anyone know what sort of tranny would work with the Pontiac 455? I am looking at getting a 1979 rolling chassis, and I would put the 455 in it. I just don't know what tranny to hook it up to.

You'll need a buick/olds/pontiac th 400. its a different bolt pattern than a gm th 400. I'm not sure what manual trans you'll need for that setup, sorry.

A thm400 will handle that power with no problem. They were used on GM big blocks and heavy duty applications like the LT-1 from 70-73. The bolt pattern is different between a Chevy and a BOP(Buick Olds Pontiac) but there are companies that make adapters.
