Help Adjusting TV Cable

I know the procedure, and have done it many times on my Iroc, but I'm having some trouble on a 92 Z-28.

I adjusted it yesterday, took it for a test drive and the shifts are allot harder, and seem to be more delayed. I tried readjusting it today, by pressing in the button and pulling the slider as far back as I can, but the slider seems to go to far in. And when I put it to full throttle it clicks a few times, but barely comes out. What do you guys think? Here some pictures.

This picture is of the slider pushed back all the way.

This picture shows the slider after wide open throttle

This picture shows the slider, when I press in the button. The slider moves forward on its own. This is also about the same spot where it was be for I made any adjustments at all.

UPDATE:

I pulled the slider out a bit (away from the firewall) and the shifts aren't as hard. Now I thought I read somewhere that its not good to have the slider pushed towards the firewall to much; right? So should I be ok having the slider out alittle bit?

I know its not the proper way to set it, but when turning from a stop, and having your car kick you back while under light/barely any throttle is just annoying. Not to mention the car will chirp the tires while turning aswell.

I think the TPI Nitrous Plate, may have something to do with it? Also the throttle cable bracket has some type of plate/adapter? between it and the plenum.
