1995 Camaro 3.4L V6 trans linkage problem

I just got a 1995 Camaro 3.4L v6 with 220k miles as a project car and just need it to be driveable somewhat for about 2-3 months to save for a v8. Lookin at a 383 Stroker or a 350 just depends on how everything goes. Ok so now the problem. The car will not go out of gear, It reverses in park and reverse, it drives in neutral and drive. I am wondering if this is a job that can be done in my garage or will I have to take it to a trans shop? I am pretty knowledegable in automotive but am still learning and I really dont care for effing up this engine and trans but it would be nice to get it running decent for a couple months.

If anyone can help out in any way that would be great. Thanks a lot!!!

The linkage is pretty easy to check out under the car and you should be able to move it by hand or have someone move it with the shifter while you watch it. At least that will let you know if the linkage is working properly and maybe its a tranny problem.

the trans pan was leaking and so I went to murrays to get the new gasket and filter and it turns out that the linkage cable was being held on by one loose bolt that was about to fall off, so I tightened that up and replaced the missing bolt and now it works perfectly, no more reversing in park.
