Motive 3:42's

I just put a set of Motive 3:42 gears in my Z. I was told that they need to be broken in for 500 miles. Nothing over 75 mph. During the test drive the mechanic told me to punch it. I was going about 30 mph and the wheels broke loose . I can't wait for the breakin to be finished to really wring it out.

You should have went up to some 3.73's if you were getting all new gears... but you'll see an improvement either way. On my bro's Z the 3.73's and shift kit he has makes the car what it is.

My Z- an '01- came with 2.73's stock- I know GM was trying to maximize the CAFE MPG's, but, come on! I swapped a 3.42 axle from a wrecked WS6, and really woke it up- you will like it- seems to be a nice compromise for highway cruising and launching-

'01 Z28, former Federal undercover car- no, it's NOT a B4C- it IS a Z28- my mods: leather T/A seats, Monsoon CD Changer, 3.42 rear axle, 32 MM front sway bar- rear springs, shocks and panhard off a wrecked WS6, de-badged, UMI SFC's, torque arm and STB, 160 deg. t-stat, FTRA, SLP Y-pipe and lid. ZO6 cam and springs- 332 RWHP and 346 RWTQ- not bad for almost stock. There goes the "stealth" theory.... "Older, not SSlower" Curmudgeon in Residence
