Anything from a gen III/IV small block should work as far as I know. Hopefully somebody who's more knowledgeable about the autos than I am can chime in.

I don't believe so because the LT1 is a gen II and a lot changed for gen III, so the earliest that I know for sure would work are from the 98 LS1 F-bodys. Anything from an an LS engine will work, and I'm 99% sure anything from a 99+ truck engine (5.3, 6.0, etc) will work as well. Maybe somebody with more knowledge about the autos can chime in and give you more specific and clearer info.

The 4l60e didn't start in the camaro till 94. Anything from that point on will work in your car. You will have to change the TC though, they are different from the ltx to the lsx.

Well I stand corrected then I guess its only the manuals that cant be interchanged (different hydrualics, input shaft, and clutch)

I would talk to a transmission shop before you do anything. For some reason I'm questioning my answer. I know that the later transmissions have a removable bell housing and for some reason, I'm now thinking that the input shaft is different. I know that the little nipple on the center of the TC is different as well as the bolt pattern. I'm going to have to check on this now, I hate when I feel like I'm wrong

I know its a little late, but the lt1's are different than the LS1's 4l60e. Only LS1 A4's will work 98-02.
