Talking Tranny...ha...always makes me laugh.

I'm going to swap out my tranny from an auto to a 6 speed, but a T56 and a new rear end is a bit out of my price range for now, so i'm going to go to a pick and pull and find my stock 4l60e tranny. I was curious what other car i could pull it from. Does it matter as long as its a 4l60e? I hear the 4l60e is way common, but if i pull the tranny and torque converter off any chevy 350 will it just match right up to the LS1? If i know what will match up i can make my search a bit more broad. Thanks for your time.

You must find a 4L60E from an LS1. The bolt pattern is different.

Thank you so much, i was about to trade my Rockford fosgate wiring kit and like everything else i had left of my system for a 4l60e that was most likely not from the LS1. The hunt continues.

is it the flexplate that doesn't match up?... and if thats it can i just buy and install the correct flexplate for any ol' 4l60e 98 or up? i've been looking hard for this tranny and have been coming up with zilch...lkq had a 80,000 mile tranny off of a z28 for 800 bones and i told them nates. i haven't even found a cheap one on the net... its lookin' bleak for a broke man like myself. They came out with an automatic on the Vets with the LS1 also right? would that be easier to find?
