95 shifting hard from first to second !!Please Help

I am new to this forum. I just brought home my camaro today. It has the auto trans with a 2800 stahl torque converter. I noticed that it is shifting real hard and fast from first to second but then shifts smoothly through the rest of the gears. i had a similar problem with a pontiac a while back and had to do with the traction control. Could it be a similar problem?

First off, welcome to the forum.

As for the transmission ... it may have a shift kit in it. Have you checked the tranny fluid to see how it looks (and level, etc). About the traction control, regardless of how your previous car behaved, does this one even have traction control? Most of our cars did not come with TCS. No button, no TCS. Also, can you please post up the particulars of the car, such as year, mileage, etc.

Ok let me start by giving you the particulars. Like i said its a 95 z28 lt1 maroon with t tops. Its got 140k which i know is a lot but after i seen how clean the car was and how good it drove i gave in. I am the third owner of the vehicle. A new transmission was put into the car by the 2nd owner. He is the one who put in the torque converter so it is possible a shift kit was also put in. As for the traction control it does have a TCS button. Thanks for the help

The 4L60E has been known to be a little rough when shifting (you may notice it going from second to first pretty indifferently also). My car doesnt have a shift kit however everyone who drives it asks if it does. It does the same however, it shifts very hard into second and the rest seem "normal". Seeing that you have a stall converter it could very possible that he had a shift kit put in anyway looking for even more performance. I wouldnt worry too much about it and enjoy being able to chirp 2nd

I'm sure that you have a shift kit in your trans and it was put in there when the trans was rebuilt. If you don't like the way it shifts, you can take it to a trans shop and they can take out "some" of the things that the kit did. But, people pay a lot of money to get there cars to shift like that lol. I know that I have about 4 hours in my trans to get it to shift the way that I want it to.

Update: Just the other day my transmission started acting funny pushing me to believe the problem is much worse than i thought. It shifts fine through all of the gears and everything is fine and dandy until you try and put it to the floor and red line it. It wont shift from 1st to second unless i let off the throttle then it goes right in and it will occasionally slip into the higher gears. again only does this when i put it right to the floor. Could you guys help me out and tell me what i have to get myself into to fix the problem. I know very little about transmissions. I did check out the fluid. Everything is full and the fluid looks very clean.

Why don't you take it to a tranny shop to see what they think?
