A scattershield is a thick (heavy) steel bellhousing that replaces the factory aluminum bellhousing. They are required by the NHRA, IHRA, and other sanctioning bodies on manual transmission cars. I think it is required on anything running 11.99 and quicker. They contain all of the flying parts from a clutch or flywheel explosion. They became mandatory around the time that guys started losing parts of their feet and legs due to exploding parts in the bellhousing. Todays clutches and flywheels are much less likely to blow up, but it is possible.

wow...well i need to get pics of mine. Mine was literally ripped apart, urs kinda looks like it was a clean tear if ya know what i mean. Also mine went after i was (i guess u could call street racing) my friend and i were passing each other (he has a 2003 saleen s-281 SC) but it ripped apart when i just pushed in the clutch to downshift which i only made it to neutral before it was completely dead. O yea just like screamin the only damage cause was to the clutch and parts of the pressure plate.

Driving!!! I speed shifted 3 times cuz of traffic and it had been grinding and making noise up till that I realized I wasnt gonna get to where I was going in time so I got in the right lane pushed the clutch in and went to shift gears into 1st from 5th so I could just use my brake and get off the side of the road and then when its clear hammer across, didnt work it wouldnt go in first and then I kept trying to get it in gear and it wouldnt go, finally the clutch stuck to the floor and wouldnt come out! I made it to the side of the road, it was on a hill so I backed down to avoid getting hit & feeling that wind off of cars... that is it lol that is what happened!
