2800-3200 stall would be a good starting point and when he gets real serious with the motor then he can always go up from there. Without a performance camshaft I wouldn't go any higher then that.

For the 427 get a tci 3500..that thing will haul ass out of the whole.....for the 350 id go with a 2400-3000.....anything in that range will get you want you want

THE 3500 STAHL WILL BE A REAL GOOD CONVERTER FOR EITHER ENGINE. YOUR DAD MAY WANT TO RUN A EXTERNAL COOLER. THIS WILL HELP KEEP THE HEAT DOWN. TCI OR CONTINENTAL ARE GOOD CONVERTERS. I'VE NEVER USD A B@M CONVERTOR, SO I CANT GIVE A REPLY ON THERE PERFORMANCE AND LONGEVITY.

It's really difficult to tell you exactly which converter you need because compression, cam and RPM band play a crucial factor in determining the needed stall speed. If you have a relatively stock 350 with a mild cam like say a COMP 268 High energy, a 3500 stall will throw you out of your power band and all the engine will do is rev like crazy and mess your torque curve up. My advise to you would be to get a Continental Converter. I would get a 10" and have them stall it up for you to the specs of the 350, and when you decide to drop the 427 in, send the converter back to them and they will re-stall for the big block for free. The Continental is about $100 more than TCI Street Fighter or a B&M Holeshot 3500, but it is way worth the money because each converter is hand assembled and built to order and can be re-stalled for free for the life of the converter.

I Never Heard Of A Company Doing That. That Is Sweet That They Do Changes Free. Were Can You Get Listings On These Units? Does Jegs Or Summit Sell Them? How About If The Converter Loosens Up Later In Its Life. Is This Under There Waranty?

They are a small company out here and are not in Jegs or Summit, they will re-stall the converter for you, but if it breaks, you have to pay for parts.

stall speed

I have never had a 427 and know that they rev higher than say, a 454,502. But my experience has been that, unless you really want a strip car the stock range is fine. 15 to 1800. My problem w/ BBs has always been trac. and I have felt I could modulate spin better w/ stock converts. Now if you set up for race and can actually launch, diff story. But stock susp. torquey cam, you'll always want for grip
