Unhappy Shifter Problems

Hey what's up guyz? Here's my dilemma:
I have a 1982 Camaro Z28 Daytona 500 with a 400 Small Block,of course its not the stock engine,I have a beefed up camshaft new rockers pushrods and new intake/carb, I believe it is the stock tranny but a guy who put on a flexplate for me told me it was a 200r4; a B&M Shift Kit Improver, Elderbrock Performer Intake and an matching Elderbrock Performer 750 cfm carb. My problem is not too long ago I was trying to put my car in reverse and I did then I skipped a gear. Let me explain some more. Now park Is reverse, sometimes nuetral works but I have to go to D, drive is 2 and 2 is 1 I can't go to my 1 on my shifter. I can put my car in the park position but it stays in reverse and the park brakes don't activate I have to use my emergency brake. It is the stock shifter. What can possibly be my problem and how can I fix it. If it's just the shifter it's no biggie cause I was going to buy a Hurst Dual Gate Shifter for Yearone.Com anyway. You know the shifter that gives you the choice of letting the transmission shift on its on or choosing the first and second gears yourself. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot guyz. Take a look at it in a local car show where I placed in the top three for the first time.

The problem appears to be the shift linkage. It is always in the gear the is below what you choose right? The linkage needs to be adjusted so it can go into park, then all the other gears should be where they are supposed to be. How do you start the car? Do you have to start it in neutral(reverse as indicated)?

The funny thing is that the car still turns over and start as long as my shifter is in the P position. Did you check out my picture of it? I had to save two summers to get it. $5,500

No your pic willnot show up for me, it downloads but willnot appear? WTF, I don't know. Thats weird that it will start, is it actually in park when you start it? Either way you should check or have someone check the linkage thats what it sounds like

i had similar problems w/ my old stock shifter. i eventually had to replace the cable(700r4). also,200r is a weak transmission. it wont hold up to a 400.

I have a brand new B&M ratchet shifter that has all the parts to work with a th350-400 or 700/200r4. I assembled it with all the relay switches, gear indicator plate, etc. for the 700r4, but I have all the stuff to covert it over to a th350/400. I may be interested in selling it, but I'm not sure right now. I went to install it, and I changed my mind last minute.
