Question 6 speed vs auto

every one on here seems to be fans of the manual trany. I am just curious as to why? not that I have anything against manuals my last car (may she rest in peace) was a 98 ss with a manual. I agree that top end she was better, and as far as on the go street racing . but as far as drag racing, the auto is much quicker in the 1/8th almost as quick in the 1/4. After a stall convertr, it is quicker in the quarter. it is also much more consistant. I understand that you loose a little more horespower to the rear wheels, but those are so easy to regain. So is it just me or does any one out there think that for drag racing the 4l60e is the better choice? 2000ss

auto will give comfortable ride , let focus in other things and eleminate the human errors .

I got a manual for the fun and control but I also got it because camaro auto transmissions suck. I don't want to come off sounding like I anti-auto because I own a auto too but those things really break down alot and it cost some serious $$$$ to fix them.

ya i agree w/ them w/ the fun factor.. and it CAN get a little better gas milage... but theres nothing like the feeling of slamming through the gears of a 300+ hp beast

I got an auto with a shift kit and rear gears that make 6 speeds cry. Definitely a better tranny for racing. P.S. I have 110,000 miles on the tranny and I works and shifts like new. The reason they screw up is human error.

I beleive autos are more fun. how else can you pick your nose, eat a burger, turn the radio, floor it, and shift gears at the same time? Manuals feel faster because you can drop a clutch and that gives the illusion of huge torque. Manuals are quicker off the line but look at any drag car that is running in the 10s and you'll see most if not all are running auto. They both have there good points and it is just a personal preference. Also I have many questions about the 4L60e. I have a post, please help.

You can pick your nose, turn on the radio, shift gears, and floor it with a manuel. You just have to learn to stear with your legs. lol

Don't get me wrong, somtimes I wish I had a six speed, but I like my auto. I have a HPP3 so I can change shift points if I wanted to, and when I get my torque converter it's only gonna get better.

I think my m6 is just pure fun. It makes for a much better day when I drive it. My wifes a4 is kinda boring, but not near as many mods.

I have a 5 speed sonoma and sometimes I drive a 94 z28 w/ auto
I do love the illusion that you are going fast, but I also like the control I can get. BUT when it comes to really going fast the automatic is definately the way to go, no offense but when you are really serious about your times it's just one less thing to worry about.

I have the 6 speed and it is f**in fun. If your a good driver you can be consistant with a manual trans. It takes more skill to race a standard. Automatics are too easy.

I have a 6spd and I am in the 10's and its still a stock tranny. I agree with everyone about how fun it is and also it makes having 4.10 gears a little easier to deal with on the highway.
