the reason it revs up is cuz autos take a second to actually shift, so its like ur revving it in neatrual, then it kicks it into drive and it jumps (like when u first start the car, slam it in to drive and hit the gas, nothing happens, then i clanks and peels out....not good)

no, it's not normal. It is a sign of transmission wear. Are you going up through the gears, or is it doing this as it shifts itself? If it's doing that by itself with the gear selector in OD, I would change fluid/filter. If it's doing it when you are manually shifting up, I wouldn't panic.

Then I wouldn't worry. OD automatic transmissions are not calibrated to have crisp shifts into OD from D. As long as the trans shifts itself well, all is well.

On my girlfriends car(95 Bird) I can be in like 2nd and shift to 3rd (auto trans) and it seems a little late to kick in...

but ya know Id say its cause its moving and has a hard time catching right?

takes a while because it's electronic shift, the pcm has to say "hey shift." OD transmission in 4th gen camaros might be the biggest mistake in engineering right after the opti's on the lt1's. but if you manual shift the auto don't hold the gas in while shifting up. it will rev up like you say and pound the clutch packs hard. that's how you get yourself a nice big transmission rebuild bill. quickly shift up a gear and right as you click in let off the gas and it will shift firm and not be too harmful to the trani. 1st and 2nd can take it pretty well but 3rd and OD are pretty weak gears in the autos. if you're gunna be manualing an auto get a trani cooler.

ding ding we have a winner rolemodel hit it on the money. another reason i call automatice crapomatics they dont shift when you tell em to they think they know when you want to but they dont. and theres people that say autos shift faster then manuals. ture if you cant drive manual the right way. the same also holds true for the 700r4 and th350 etc insdead of electronic its vacume operated shift selinoid with only auto not the 700r4 that one is also electronic as well. biggest reason automatice ROBS AND STEALS YOUR POWER for there own use just get it to pump the fluid

What you really need is to rebuild you transmission. You have to be gentle with it unless you beef it up to take the abuse.
