what all do you have to do to put a turbo 400 into a 96 camaro that had a turbo 350....i know they make a bracket that bolts to the pan for the shifter but what about the vacum tube trans mount cross member etc

Usually there will be holes in the subframe for the trans crossmember to bolt to , and of corse you need a different driveshaft/yoke combo, the trans mounts are the same I believe , then you need the kickdown switch for the pedal and the wireing that goes with it and assorted brackets like you said it's pretty straight forward swap as some 69s were equipped with 400s , the 400 uses an electric kick down and the modulator is closer to the front on the pass side simple bending and cutting your stock TH-350 hose will work there ..

Exactly what BBCAM said, but why doe you want to run a TH-400? Those babies are strong, but they rob you of about 30 horsepower.

i don't understand what you talking about "the kick down switch'". i have a deep sump t-400 in my t bucket and i don't have any sorte of kick down switch. you have the vaccume line that goes to the modulator. i have had a 3/4 ton chevy p -up and no switch. please describe this switch. i've been running t-400's for years. and don't know about this switch... unless your talking about the piano cable that is needed for a t 350 not a t 400...

All TH-400s have an electrical terminal on the front of the trans( right side I believe) the passing gear (kickdown is electricly controlled ) the switch is usually either on the carb (closes at WOT) or under the dash mounted to the pedal assembly , the same switch set up was used to activate the trap door on 80-81 Z28s i would bet your pick up has one of these switches if it's still stock .. allthough lots of TH-400 transplants never get a switch or even know they need one .. over time without the trans has a better chance of overheating from (lugging) without the kickdown switch installed ..

Look at a modified 700R4. I found a company in FL (eatmyshift.com) that builds them to take 600HP with a mechanical speedometer drive. (Although I decided to stick with a stick). You get a beefy tranny with overdrive and there's even a company that makes a rebuild kit for the original wishbone shifter that include a replacement 4 speed shift plate (Shiftworks.com).

The only problem with a 700 is they are HEAVY up to 50 lbs heavier than a TH-400 and alot heavier than a TH-350... try lifting one by your self once !!

switch

bbcam in the spring i put a th400 in my 80z and did not see the terminal you spoke of this trans came from jackson racing and is to be a manual/auto valve body. when you pull into first it will stay there till you shift it but is still to act like a regular auto when you put in drive and go but it will not down shift when you tromp it is that why if so then i need to find this terminal and connect it to the pedal switch. i take it that it would have power with key on and would close switch at wot. to send power to trans correct thanks for your help
