That is the factory Skip Shift, It is there for EPA gas mileage rating. It forces you to skip shift from 1st to 3rd by locking the tranny with hydraulics. It is a pain. The first day I had my car I did not know anything about it and almost got in a wreck, because I could not shift to 2nd to accelerate out of another vehicles way. You can get a skip shift eliminator from most manufacturers.

I can tell you are very new to the M6 skip shift feature. GM thought you needed to save fuel so they put that in there. Like you really bought a Z28 for gas mileage, I know I did. It only works when the engine is at operating temp and you are in a specific rpm range(just putting along). At Wide Open Throttle you won't notice it. Of course you already knew that part.

The skip shift feature is only for the T56 Transmission. All 94 Camaros have the same guage cluster. They just leave the lamps out of the indicators not used. You may also notice an ASR OFF indicator that also has no lamp because 94's don't have traction control. No, it doesn't hurt to downshift your trans. manually as far as I know.

I wouldn't. If you switch gears in a automatic like from lower to 1st gear to 2nd gear. It can hurt.

But if you switch from drive to over-drive or viceversa, then that wont hurt you. Overdrive will save you gas, thats all.

I've had an ASE certified tech who knows those cars and did the plugs in about an hour and a half tell me its fine. Just watch it... you don't wanna redline. 2nd tachs at like 90. I think 1st tachs at 50. Not too sure... just don't downshift too much. I don't drop it past 3rd when I hit the gas... but just cause I'm scared, but it's supposed to be okay. Okay, later.

well my friend said that i should drive in D when i'm anything lower than 45... and anything higher drive in overdrive... i don't really touch 2 and 1.... i mean i have a couple times because of this steep ass hill but that was it....

i have been driving in D until past 45 then into overdrive.. i just didn't know if that hurt it... and usually when i turn i go into D again.. so just tell me if i'm wrong.. or he is.

You can keep it in either position. D or over drive.

Over drive just helps you save gass. When racing stay in D and floor it !

It's easier to just yank 2 wires from the pcm, I did it like this and it was easy and it works fine:
