Carbon Fiber driveshaft????

I go to sites like LPE and Racenet and hear all this stuff about "brute strength" carbon fiber driveshafts? Bigger, ligher, stronger....yet at least two torque converter companies tell me C.F. driveshafts will shatter with a high enough RPM drop.

I'm not hearing too much great stuff about aluminum driveshafts either. Bend easier than steel? I'm thinking if these are so great, why is LPE so eager to blow out their 3.5" aluminum shafts for so cheap?

I eventually plan on having my Z28 pushing 450 flywheel horse. With a 2800 stall converter, should I keep my stock driveshaft or go for a bigger custom built steel shaft?? This carbon fiber sounds uneal.

Carbon fiber is really strong unless it takes some sort of blow. then it just shatters, and you lost 700 bucks easy. If your lookin to build BIG horspower i wouldnt go with aluminum either.

As a side note....how much did you see the LPE 3.5" for?

In the "CLEARANCE" section on LPE's site, the 3.5" aluminum driveshaft is going for $299, down from $394 (and its been like this since at least June). See I don't know if I sould get this shaft in the meantime or what. I won't be doing much, if any, engine work this summer. I will get a 2800 stall converter though. Think this 3.5" aluminum shaft will handle my 370 odd flywheel horse a lot better on the track this summer than the stock 2.5" steel shaft ?!?!????

Actually it is because they become warped from being spun to far past critical speed

Balance it all day long if you like.
