Need help 3.8l misfire
i've been tryin to figure out the problem with my engine. it's mostly an on and off problem. which is why i'm puzzled. it will drive fine as long as i am going light on it and accelerating slowly. but when i try to push it a little to accelerate it will start misfiring. and the ses light goes on and off for random misfire. i've already replaced all the plug wires. ignition coils. ignition module. upstream o2 sensor. anybody else have same problems or maybe know a cure?

sounds like a coil in the coil pack. I went threw that mess and and a head ach it was, more so that the coild from car ques that shop put on all kept going out till all three was replace by ones from auto zone.
Instead of going to the shop and being charged $200 u can fig it out your self. with the car off take a plug off and crank the car. If it sounds the same thats it if it changes thats not it. turn the car off aodn do it again on the next coil. I recomendchecking them all just to make sure u have the right one. All u need to do I take one wire of the each of the coil one at a time. 3 wires and 3 difrent times to start. When I took it in they dd a proces of elimination to figure wich one it was. there comp said it was a tune up and needed plugs. whenmine went out I had just changed mine so I knew it wasn't them. It is $25 here at atuozone. Don't be suprised if u have to do the other two soon. Advice if u do it your self put the new one in the rear and keep the old one in the front.

check the air flow snesencer. it might be dirty and sending the rong air fuel info. but this usealy shutts the car off becouse it then runs to lean. If it is a round 85k then u may need a plug chang if u havent done one yet. My coilse went and then my plugs went to right after my coils. I was at 83k when mine did and now in my 99 I am at 120k take some part cleaner and spray it on the senser and clean it. if that dont work let us know.
by the way after I changed all the coiles I had to chang them all again about 3 months afterwords. I took it back to goodyear a month after the first repair and had them do it sence they did it the first time and it was for free (under warenty). after that another month went by and it did it again and this time I did the work. It was the same coil as the last one i had the shop change ( I asked them witch coil it was). it had been 2 months and it hapen again this time i amd frustated at this, this time it was a diff coil. and that has been end of my coil replacement as of yet. bothe coils I did I went to auto zone and the ones they did was car quest brand. changed one coil once (shop), one coil twice (shop and me) and the last one shop did it twice and I did it once. after two times of taking it back i got tired of it even though it was covered I took and ate the cost (i was home then). The shope was ordering bad parts or the wrong parts and the cars demand was to great and made it go bad. just becouse its new dont mean its going to work, look at half the stuff at walmart.

yea i found the problem. i guess it was a combo of the heat shield touching the exhaust manifold and some other things. but the main problem was. i was looking at it at night. and i saw sparks and some flame shot out where the plug was. and i tought the plugs were loose and they were the plugs were a little too narrow for it. so i got some ngk iridium and replaced the autolite double platinums (never buy) and everything is perfect running now. thanks for the help
