up in smoke
I have an 81' Z28, 383 stroker. last week when I parked it it was running fine. This weekend when I started it I had lots of black carbon smoke and ran like crap. I thought it was the carb- changed it. Also changed plugs...still running like crap, any suggestions?

double check the timing. are you using a Holley? mite have a float stuck or is set to high and is flooding out the engine. and have you had a backfire through the carb? then the power valve is shot and that is making it rich running. and also check the fuel pressure. you only need about 6lbs of pressure.

timing was checked. i thought it might be the carb so i got a new 750 holley. changed the plugs, checked fuel pressure right around 6 . it seems to be running a bit better but not all that good. do you think it might be a stuck valve.

i take it there is no EGR valve that may be stuck open. have you checked for a vaccum leak?? when you set the valves, did you go zero lash and a 1/4 turn more?? just a thought. valves mite be to tight.

what type of ignition are you using? the coil mite be going bad and is not sending enough voltage to the plugs. are you using a AC Delco plugs? R44ts at .040-.045 gap is a good choice and cheap till you figure the problem out.
