Where would be a good place to put the water temp. sending unit (mechanical) on the block. And also the oil pressure tube?(mechanical)

Use the drain plug hole on the cylinder heads. Most of the time the sending unit screws right in.

Oil pressure is on the very back of the block, just behind where the intake flange and block meet, towards the drivers side but before you reach where the block, head, and intake meet.
