lt1 ,ls1 in to 3rd gen

im looking into doing a swap in a3rd gen i want to buy soon i wanted to know what would be more cost effective if i start a mild FI build, concidering i buy a 5speed car, concidering all the adapters to make all the gauges work in the car with a goal of 550hp what would be the better most cost effective way to go, i originally wanted to keep the tpi engine going but what is makeing me think is the tunning thats going to be required, sending the computer to be burn every time you change something does not sound fun, i dont know how much dyno tunning you would be ble to do either....im not filthy rich so the build is probably going to be a slow one and wanted to do most of the stuff myself , so the less fabricating and welding the better....

forged tpi 5 speed
forged Lt1 6 speed
forged Ls1 6 speed

The LT1 swap would be easier and probably cheaper than an LS1 swap, but I voted LS1 swap nonetheless....

I'll let my kat out of the basket this weekend after I get some pictures of what I'm buying hehe

LS1 would be better

LT1 seems like it would fit w/ a 3rd Gen better.

Get a LQ4 6.0 truck motor, and drop that it!

Lt is alot cheaper, but the ls1 has alittle bit more of a cool factor, I like my little LT1 was alot easier to do.

i did an L-98 with Lt-1 crank rods and pistons with a fat cam and lots of tpi upgrades and aluminum heads. all in all im happy with the build. of course if money was no object then i wouldve done an Ls-1.

im actually leaning towards getting a ls1 just because of the tunning that will be involved, there is a hotrod magzine article that they did last year with a 5.3 motor and a mp turbo in a fairmont, it was insane they but a ls6 cam and gained like 100 horses that was pushing more that 550 horses that has me motivated...if i blow that motor the 3rd gen will get my 01 motor, so that mine can get a 383 or something

Seeing as you said it will be a slow build, go with the LS1. As far as fabrication, a bunch of the parts for the swap are already fabricated and sold ready to bolt in. No offense Sean (I think your car is sexy), but LSx or go home

Ya I was surfing over on hawk's website looking at swap parts and the prices don't SEEM too bad...except for the swap longtube headers which are outrageously priced. I didn't realize the motor mounts and crossmember were only $185...

Yea, for a period of time I had thought about starting to collect the swap parts. But then I realized I have no space to put stuff other then in the car haha. Screw putting parts inside the car that need to go ON it.

yea it makes sense as far as the tunning to go ls1, because of how hard it would be to tune a tpi(or is it??) and lt1 because of the opti crap.....

Tuning a TPI motor isn't hard, if you know what you're doing. There's a guy here that is a TPI genius, he could probably squeeze 20hp out of a bone stock motor.
