LS1 Swap!!!!

I got a helluva good deal on an LS1 with the computer from a 98 Firebird and I'm thinking of pulling my LT1 out of my 93 Z28 and swapping. I know I want to break down the engine and do a rebuild, heads, cam, intake, ect., and I know I'll need new mounting brackets and a wiring harness, but what else am I going to need to anticipate for this swap? Have any of you guys done this before? Any and all help would be great.

You will need a new K member, and you will need a new trans. The bellhousing is different as well as the TC. Other than the air intake track, and the parts I listed, it should just drop in, unless you will be going from the bottom lol.

T56 is easier, but you will still need a new flywheel, PP and clutch, as wel as a new bellhousing. But, the trans its self will work.

^ the hydraulics are different so you would need new slave cylinder and such. The input shafts are also different. Need a new transmission brace aswell. Im not sure but I also think you need a new fuelpump. not sure though. i do know the fuel setup is different on the ls1. Also you wont be able to just use an ls1 harness....they wont connect to your gauges. I think with the 97s having the same interior setup as 98+ it matches up. Anything before that no.

Doesn't look like they offer anything for the 4th gen (yet). There looks to be a typo on their front page on their 3rd gen offering (front page says years through 93, but once on that page it only goes through 92).

Hmmm, that is strange. You might call them to see what they have. 770-751-0687

Could I be better off dropping my LS1 into my 87 instead?

I don't think it's an 87, but BlueZee28 is doing a swap right now with an LS1. His thread is in the projects section. It's a little bit of a long read now, but has plenty of pics.

http://www.z28.com/forum/projects/13...rivetrain.html

His posts are pretty detailed about what he did too so if you decided to do the 87 swap that would give a good idea of what you'd be doing.
There are several people on here as well that have swapped LS1's into early 4th gens. I also believe in the latest issue of Camaro Performers magazine there is a red 93 or 94 that had an LS6 swapped into it.
