Question Motor using oil @ only 44K miles.. ??

I have the oil changed in my Z 2001 every 3 to 4 thousand miles every since i bought it ( new ). about 6 months ago the low oil light came on and i had just had an oil change like 2000 miles earlier.. so a friend said maybe they did not fill the motor up all the way @ the last oil change.. Anyway, I have to put a quart of oil in the car every 3000 miles before an oil change is needed..

there is no oil puddles on my drive, and today i had another oil change and they looked and said it doesn't look like i have a leak..

Should a motor start using oil at only 44k ???

it's a V8 and i put about 2 thousand miles going back and forth to work a month on it... get an oil change about every 2 - 2 1/2
months but have to put a quart in between oil changes..

the Check engine soon light came on on the way home today...

and of course my warranty just expired....

I think that's normal for LS1's. Mine does it, as well as several others I've encountered.

As far as the SES light, you'll need to have someone with an OBDII scanner check it out for you. The OBDII is kinda funny sometimes. I've diagnosed a car that had the engine light come on for a blown fuse. Another because it had cheap gas and misfired once. The best one yet was a truck that had the engine light on because some dirt got in the valve body and caused it to slip once. I never thought an engine would come on for a tranny problem. Make sure when you get it scanned they tell what code number it's reading. That way you can verify what they say is wrong.

1 quart every 3000 miles is very common if you have tendency to keep your foot in it. I've seen them use that amount when the car only had 5000 miles on it.

Thank you guys for the posts..
not quite as nervous about the Z after reading that some of you have encountered the same thing. I only had my Z28 for 6 months ( brand new ) red, T-tops, black leather. loaded.. the
car of my Dreams and a drunk driver ran into me at an intersection
and got me right behind my door and hit me so hard, that i spun around 3 times before stopping all the while practically standing on the brakes thinking i would never quit spinning.. 9,000. to redo
the back rear end and of course my car has never drove the same. but since the wreck is on file, my trade in will only be 13,500 and i still owe 18,000.. so guess i am stuck with her.
so i freaked when they said my motor may be using oil @44K and that isn't good... Thanks again have a good day... gina

I have found a solution to the oil dilemna. Apparently it's a very common problem. This looks like it should help a little.
Here's what I found:
