I say that a good Turbo 350 or a Turbo 400 is the way to go. You'd have to buy an overdrive unit if your looking for gas mileage. The gears are better in both transmissions than in the T-56.

T56 is smoother, cheaper, and they're fine up to over 400hp, built up right they'll go as high a 900hp from what I've seen from other owners. And if you WANT stronger gears (never heard of a T56 gear problem at ANY hp), you can have them straight-cut like the Lenco, GForce, or any other race-only tranny manufacturer will make ... of course it'll cost ya, and they WILL be louder. Of course that's a race tranny for ya, at that level I expect you would ditch the syncros as well and go with a dog-ring design.

Get a T56 and K.I.S.S.

You can also try D&D Performance (http://www.ddperformance.com/), West-Tech Auto (
http://www.westechauto.com/index.htm), and B-Body Performance (http://www.bigfastcar.com/) all of whom sell and work on T56's. John Donato from Donato Engineering (in Flordia) can convert your output shaft to the viper 31-spline style (with a larger bushing as well) if needed.
