454 Heads

Hey all,

I got two sets of 454 heads laying around and I want to know the specs on them and if there good for a motor that I'm thinking of building. The casting #'s are 14092360 & 14081045.

Hi, numbers check as follows 14092360- 86-88 oval port truck these are the peanut port heads, small ports and valves not recomended for performance use ... 14081045 ..78-87 oval port open chamber also low perf heads but have decent size ports , can be upgraded but not very good in ( stock configuration)... both of these are low perf truck heads made more for torque than anything else ..

What do you think about 049 or 990 heads? I know a guy that has those laying around.

The 990 castings are service replacement heads and would be a much better choice
they are rectangle port open chamber 118 cc , the 049 castings are 73-84 oval port open chamber 122ccs with 255/119cc ports.. these are also good heads for a mild to HP build up although the large cc chambers hold compression to low #s with flat top pistons .
