Hmmmm.........Is the 6 speed tranny offered with the 3.8? I know they're both rear wheel drive.

All I can offer you some basic stuff I've come across in these tranny "swaps", I don't know if all or how much apply to this particular situation though.

Usually you'll need to make sure that the new tranny will bolt up. To the engine and all. (is it called the bell housing where the tranny bolts up?)

I've always heard you need a different ecu for a tranny swap. At least with an auto to manual swap but again, I don't know about this particular situation.

And I'm not sure how much good it would do for you to swap the 6 speed into your car. If the 6 speed is only offered in the higher HP v8 models then the gears might be long enough that yur performance would suffer. Again, that might be ass smoke, I'm just trying to throw some stuff out here that othes might could clear up or elaborate on.

First thing I would do is find out what is "the same" about your v6 car and the car from which you will get a "donor" transmission.

Tranny casing bolt pattern, clutch, flywheel, axles, anything that is involved with the transmission is a potential "swap friendly" or "swap pita".

PS: If you've got GMs L36 3.8 then those are tight engines. Nice displacement, tough built, theres a CSC out by ZZP performance I believe it is called, for the FWD applications of the L36. They're getting good results out of that engine.

I'd settle for the 5 speed if I were you. The trans bolt patern on the 3.8 is different, you would at least need a adapter to make it work. You would also need a custom flywheel as it won't bolt up either.

In the end, even if you could get this to work. 6th gear would be worthless, because the small 3.8 dosn't make enough torque to pull a 50% overdrive. Go with the 5 speed. It's not as glamorous, but it bolts in.
