buying 84 Z28... need advice

I'm interested in possible buying a 84 Z28 off a friend. With the exception of the body, which needs paint and minor work, the car is supposed to be in good mechanical shape.

Any perticulars to pay close attention to when checking this car out for problems other than the usual stuff?

any advice or suggestions would be great. thanks.

Look at the door jambs where the hinges are, some I've seen are almost rusted off!

See if the fundamentals work, heater/ac/headlights/etc. Esp. since winter is coming quickly.

Drive it around for a day, if the guy trusts you will like the car, then he should have no problem with this.

Run a magnet down odd looking panels to check for bondo, and hence, a previous wreck.

i know a guy that works at GM and he said that as soon as the camaros came off of the assembly line they started rusting because of the epoxy they used on the paint. so minor rust is to be expected. because i just bought an 84 Z and it has SOME minor rust but it can be fixed easily. if it does have a few spots of rust my suggestion would be to get a new coat of paint on it (while fixing the rust) so that the rust doesn't continue.

Thumbs up

Ive got 84 Z and have no probs with any door jams or anything like it. Paint of curse might need some work and maybe bondo, but that desnt mean serious wreck. Could just be fender bender. I say go with the check of ac heater and stuff in tht area but might be worth it if it is working motor and tranny wise.
