My harnesses are also made by M&H. The main reasons I had for replacing the wiring harness were to change features on the car. I changed the underdash harness to allow for the console gauges, and the engine harness for the same reason. When I ordered the engine harness, I also switched from an externally regulated to internally regulated alternator. The underdash harness is expensive, so unless you have electrical issues or want to add features not supported in your current wiring, there's probably no need to replace it.

I had to replace my under dash harness because some A-hole thought it would be a good idea to cut every single wire off the fuse box and tape them on to a 7 fuse panel from Radio Shack, you had to turn the lights on to start the car and that's no lie!!

If I am not mistaken they sell the console harness that will plug directly into the factory dash harness. The thing that sux for me is that I paid $400 for my harness and I now need to buy a new one because I am converting the car to a 4 speed and M&H can't rework mine, they said they don't do that anymore so I need to buy another one ![]()

I bought the engine, underdash and console harness all at the same time. The key is that the underdash harness has to have the proper plug to support the console gauges. There's a rectangular plug that the console harness plugs into along with additional connections in the plug for the engine harness. In my case, my car was ordered with the console, but standard gauges, so the connector just has wiring for the rear console light. I think in 69 they may have used a harness that allowed for adding gauges later, but no luck for that in 68.
I know they always ask for the trans type when you order them, but I don't know what exactly is different on the harness when you use a stick, other than some extra wiring to light the console shift plate on an AT. Kick down and vacuum modulation are not electrical, so what else would there be? |

The difference is the stupid wiring for the back up light system and the neutral safety switch.
