Lightbulb Splay your own main caps??

i was just curious if there is a kit or something so you can splay your own main caps to four bolts so ya don't have to have someone else do it for ya? i mean if ya bought new caps then why couldn't ya just drills hole in there and be done... but i would just want to know that im drillin em right and to the right depth and stuff. I just figured it could be another lil area to save some money for when i build my stroker next summer.

While it is possible to do the drill and tap portion of the work yourself, there are a few machining operations that you can't do without the correct equipment.

There are 2 kinds of splayed caps. One fits the stock cap registers and the other requires the stock cap registers to be widened to accomodate the new cap.

Either type of cap requires a line hone after they are installed. This is to make certain that the main cap bores are all perfectly in line so the crank spins wihout any kind of bindage.

Well like I said. if the caps you get will fit the stock block registers, the step that the stock cap sits down in, then you can drill and tap your own bolt holes. If the new caps are longer than the stock registers then you will have to get a machine shop to widen the registers so the cap will sit all the way down before they bolt holes can be drilled and tapped.

Eagle sells a set of ESP Alloy steel main caps that will fit the stock 2 bolt main registers. The part number is C4102S and the cost on them is 100$ for a set shipped to the lower 48 from most distributors, including me.
