Question LT1 to LS1 Conversion

Hello everyone,

My Z28 '96 engine died on me last week and I was able to find an "almost" brand new LS1 engine from a wrecked '98 at a decent price.

Do you think that the conversion is possible? What extras do I need to pull out from the 98?

Many thanks,

T.G.

The title is kinda confusing there, I thought you where converting to an LT4. But the converion has been done before. I believe you need the wire harness for an LS1 and an LS1 K-member.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I was hesitating in posting my message here but I searched the forum for a similar question and couldn't find any.

I am actually converting from LT1 to LS1 and not LT4.

Do I have to pull out the gages/dash? Will the LS1 engine fit in? What about electrics?

Thanks again!

T.G.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! As weird as it may seem, I couldn't find ANY website/forum that talks about this conversion.

I would really appreciate if you could give me extra details on that. Meanwhile, do you have any website that could give me some info? HP comparison, procedure, etc?

Thanks,

T.G.

This is what I've come up with so far. I'll keep looking.

From what I've seen on LS1tech and other forums, its a pretty tough swap because of all the little detailed parts. Can you get your hands on the whole wrecked 98 LS1 car. I would say strip the 98 and put it into yours. That seems like the easiest way. I havent been able to find anything for hooking up the tac and gauges, who kno's you might get lucky and find that the connector to the PCM is the same?

I beileve there is a writeup in the articles section form a member of ours who did this. If the article isn't there, PM sinistersix. I think he's the one that did the swap.

im doing a v6 to v8(lt1) swap and i need the gauges, springs, shocks, fuel system, kmember...etc...alot of things that would cost a bundle if you by seperate...if you can get the entire car then that would be a good swap if not then you will loose alot of money.

It isn't even worth doing the swap. It would probably be cheaper to find a '98 for about $6000-$7000.

Besides, if you're going to do a swap, at least make it worth it (no offense LS1 guys). Do an LS6 swap, or even an LS7.

Thanks Guys,

I contacted my mechanic today, he got the Engine for 800 bucks and he will be taking care of the installation. Is that figure reasonable?

Will keep you posted as he will be doing the installation tomorrow.

I'll browse for the article mentionned earlier on anyway.
Cheers,

T.G.

Just $800 for the motor, related parts and install? Almost sounds too good to be true...

Hello everyone,

Yes, 800$ for the engine and 150$ for the labor! I'll go down to pick up the car tomorrow night...

Now, What kind of performance am I supposed to expect here?

Thanks,
