I've heard the L98 IROCs were much faster than the 5.0L Stangs. Did your '88 have the L98 or the LB9?

Yeah, the Mustangs probably weighed around 3100 lbs, if that....

i have the H.O. 350 from GM with 330HP and 380FtLbs TQ in my 82, it hauls!!

The lt1 was way more impressive than the l98's. l98's are tq'y down low but had noting up top.

I understand what you're saying about the L98 losing power, but I think we're each "missing the beat" with what each other is saying. I'm not disagreeing with you that the LT1 makes more power up top, but what I'm questioning is that maybe the L98 isn't the problem at all with it falling flat on its face, and it's the 700R4 that's not optimized.....
